Amels unveils axe-bow support vessel

Dutch superyacht builder Amels has unveiled the Sea Axe Fast Yacht Support - a 50m axe-bow support vessel designed to carry crew, supplies and toys for superyachts on location.

With a maximum speed of 28kt even in very rough seas, the Yacht Support will have 230sq m of deck area and a 250-tonne cargo capacity. The vessel can be used for pre- and post-cruise logistics, including scouting anchorages and transporting guests.

The Yacht Support is based on the Sea Axe Fast Crew Supplier 5009, designed and built by Amels's parent company Damen Shipyards for transporting offshore workers.

Intended for series production, Damen is currently building two Yacht Supports, a double order from the same client. The vessel will be formally introduced at the Monaco Yacht Show. Amels will market the vessel on behalf of Damen.
Amels builds custom and semi-custom superyachts, as well as offering refits.

Damen Shipyards is Holland's biggest shipbuilder. The family-owned company employs 6,000 people worldwide. Turnover for 2008 amounted to (EUROS)1.68bn and current order book value is (EUROS)2.8bn.
