Ross Tannock is a sales broker, Moran Yacht & Ship.
CV: I was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, and I guess my background is somewhat different from most yacht brokers – I’m an ex-professional football player. I played in Scotland and in Belgium, before moving to play in the US. After a few years in sports marketing I began working on yachts. On board the Feadship Monteath, I worked with Brian Moran, who was the captain of Monteath at the time. I’ve been at Moran Yacht & Ship for seven years now and there is no brokerage more knowledgeable in the yacht business.
My most memorable sale: This is the 58.5-metre Lürssen Capri that was built by the Moran Yacht & Ship team in 2003. It wasn’t the most promising of starts to a sale: the viewing took place in a dock at Wilhelmshaven on a freezing mid-November evening – it was a world away from the superyachting hotspots. I could sense something early on – this was a viewing that was going really well. The gentleman had seen a lot of yachts but I could tell that he hadn’t seen anything like this superbly built Lürssen. This was late November 2009 and despite the inauspicious start the deal was concluded by January of the next year, just a month and a half from that first look. I am pleased to say he still owns the yacht, and still loves it and cruises extensively. Capri continues to have a a successful charter career.
