Dramatic footage from a superyacht’s on-board CCTV has emerged of the moment last week when a rogue wave breached the sea wall at Sanremo, sweeping a motorcyclist – believed to be a crewman from one of the yachts – along with a parked car, into the water.

Local newspaper reports say the man was quickly recovered from the water and taken to hospital, badly shaken but with non-life-threatening injuries. Still photos published on the Sanremo News website show extensive damage to cars on the hard.

A low-pressure area moving through the region was blamed for the build up of waves, which struck Sanremo in the late afternoon. They were felt less severely in other ports up and down the coastline.
