Superyacht owners in search of the ultimate Olympic souvenir might want to pop along to Bonhams auctioneers next week. The specially modified Bladerunner RIB driven by David Beckham during the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics is one of the star lots going under the hammer at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge in Surrey on December 3. Other items for sale include a Hawker Hurricane aircraft and a 2010 Pagani Zonda F.
Built by Ice Marine in Hampshire, the 10.6-metre RIB was used to ferry the Olympic torch on its final leg of the journey along the Thames and into the Olympic Park. Football legend David Beckham was at the helm as fireworks rained down from Tower Bridge, creating one of the most memorable spectacles of Britain’s golden summer. The boat is being sold with many of its special modifications still intact, including fake rocket boosters, waterjets and the torch bearer’s seat, although with twin 300hp Mercury outboards and a top speed of around 60 knots it’s hardly in need of any extra help. It is expected to fetch £200,000-£250,000.
