First Palmer Johnson superyacht built in Hythe

The first superyacht to be built at Palmer Johnson’s new manufacturing site at Hythe near Southampton has hit the water.

The 170ft monster, known as PJ-501, was built for a repeat client and is heading to the Mediterranean, where she’ll cruise for the coming months.

Palmer Johnson, one of the world’s most prolific superyacht builders, opened the facility in Hythe in 2008.

The company aims to produce five or six 170ft and 185ft superyachts at the site annually, and is able to built boats up to 100m in length at the plant.

“This significant launch certainly cements Palmer Johnson’s Sportyacht concept by passing the 50-metre benchmark and further confirms the appeal of the Sportyacht genre,” said company President Mike Kelsey.
