First yacht builder signs up to Wood Forever sustainability scheme

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has developed a Wood Forever programme encouraging yacht builders to only use timber from sustainably managed forests.

Burger Boat Company signed a partnership agreement and has committed to analyse its wood supply chain in order to develop a sustainable wood purchasing policy and in doing so, fight deforestation.

The Foundation hopes that other yacht builders will follow this leadership example to drive the yachting industry towards environmental excellence.

“Our presence in the Principality of Monaco and the respect we have for our environment and Prince Albert II has certainly encouraged us to promote and support the use of certified wood products on the yachts we build,” said Jim Ruffolo, Burger President & CEO. “We are convinced that the yachting industry must set an example through ethical and socially-responsible behaviors and we are taking action within our organization to adopt these behaviors.”
