New superyacht berths are likely to be built in Dorset after Poole Harbour Commissioners backed proposals for a £25 million redevelopment of the quay.
The commissioners hope to transform Poole into the yachting leisure capital of the South Coast with a new marina capable of welcoming superyachts (as well as cruise ships). It is hoped that world-class regattas could take place in the city if the development goes ahead, captialising on the recent success of the UK as a destination for the London 2012 Olympics.
Poole Quay Boat Haven can currently only accommodate vessels up to 60 metres. The extension to the marina would afford Poole the opportunity to echo Canary Wharf‘s success as a superyacht berthing facility with top-class concierge services.
