Red Arrows mesmerise Monaco Show

It takes a lot to upstage the stunning new superyachts on display at this year’s Monaco Boat Show, but that’s just what the Red Arrows managed against the magnificent backdrop of Monaco Bay.

The appearance had been organised by SuperYacht UK and was sponsored by SuperYacht World to celebrate British involvement in the superyacht industry.

The 35-minute performance stopped the show in its tracks as the nine Hawk aircraft flew into action with a series of death-defying manoeuvres, wing-to-wing formations and head-on passes.

Guests of SuperYacht World were able to witness it all from the breakwater at Monaco Harbour, where the jets came thrillingly close. For the many yachts anchored out in the bay there were even closer views as the jets raced by at mast level.

Not that the Red Arrows were taking any chances; the 45m Hakvoort My Trust was asked to move after the organisers informed the captain that he was – unknowingly – 80m inside the restricted display area.

The display ended to the joyous cheers of the thousands of spectators and the deafening clatter of the horns or all the yachts at the show. Not surprisingly, talks are being held about a repeat performance next year.
