The Class, Sail Newport and the US Coast Guard, working with the State of Rhode Island have come up with the attached primary course area to be used throughout the 5 day regatta. Like every regatta, the final courses will be set to the wind direction and velocity in the defined areas.
The attached chart can accommodate courses that can be as short as 7 miles and as long as 23 miles.
Optimum viewing areas are highlighted in green on the attached chart. The course was designed to utilize 3 of Rhode Island’s wonderful waterfront state parks. Ft. Adams, Ft. Wetherill, and Beavertail will all provide a dramatic location for family viewing.
With a minimum of 3 yachts whose average length is 138′ and whose masts clear the Pell Bridge in Newport by 20 feet, these professionally sailed and elegant boats will be quite easy to see.
