Turkey delivers biggest-ever yacht

The biggest-ever megayacht produced in Turkey was launched by the Yachtley shipyard on Friday. The Nourah of Riyadh was delivered to Saudi Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz. It is estimated to have cost €40m.

State Minister Kürşad Tüzmen spoke at a ceremony on Friday at the Yachtley shipyard in the Kocaeli Free Zone, where it was manufactured. “We like to break records,” Tüzmen told the crowd. “With a new record, we will build a 75m-long yacht here next time.”

Yachtley is owned by Saudi, Lebanese and Turkish investors. Bader Fahad M Al Athel, vice president of the company, said the firm was founded in 2005. Athel told Huriyet.com that his company trusted “the quality of workforce and production” in Turkey.

Designed by Donald Starkey, construction started on the Nourah of Riyadh in January 2006. It will sail from Turkey to Cannes.
