Only a horse stood between SuperYacht World and the new 85-metre Lürssen superyacht Solandge, anchored off Monaco. But there was good reason for this: Monaco’s landmark swimming pool area had been transformed for the latest leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour show-jumping event. But the real horsepower was close by, with superyachts, including Wedge 2, Chopi Chopi and Athena, all stern-to and making a splendid backdrop for the event. The tender out to Solandge picked us up just alongside Chopi Chopi, which was being polished with microscopic precision awaiting her owner’s arrival. Out on the water, Solandge looked magnificent, with her eye-catching deep-blue hull. For our on-board gallery, you can click here, and you can read all about Solandge in the next issue of SuperYacht World.
After Solandge, we also had the opportunity to look over a new presence on the Monaco skyline – Tour Odéon. The 22nd-floor showroom gave us an opportunity to soak up the many design ideas from Alberto Pinto that have been inspired by superyachts, and we’re sure that many will become the perfect apartments for superyacht owners, including the €300 million penthouse with a pool and waterslide.
To round off the weekend, we were excited to see the new waterjet ‘boots’ being demonstrated. It was fitting that these James Bond-like gadgets were being trialled off the late, great David Niven’s house – they wouldn’t have looked out of place in Casino Royale!
